10 Healthy Weight Loss Tips

It's wonderful to want to lose weight and be healthy. However, with the different types of diets that are popular today, our health can be compromised. The best solution for losing weight and keeping it off is to eat healthy and smart. Here are 10 tips to help you lose weight and keep it off.

1. NEVER try any kind of starvation diet. Our bodies need different types and amounts of vitamins and nutrients just to keep going. Starving yourself to lose a little weight can deprive your body of essential nutrients and vitamins. This can damage our bodies severely, including damage to the liver, kidneys, heart, and even the brain.

2. Try not to deprive yourself. While it is not healthy to eat 'junk food' all the time, it may not be healthy to deprive yourself of sweet things that comfort you. The reasoning behind this is that you will stay away from these types of foods for a while, but one slip up, and you will automatically want to have more. This can lead to over-eating these types of foods, and that will definitely not help our diets. Instead, try snacking on sweet things like raisins, dried fruits, fresh fruits, or nuts.

3. Whether we like it or not, we must have exercise. No diet will successfully help you become healthy if you don't exercise. If you truly dislike exercising, and many people do, try something fun like jumping rope. This is a great cardio exercise and burns a lot of calories. It's also a lot easier on the knees and joints than jogging or sprinting.

4. Avoid the 'bad' fats. Saturated fats and Trans fats are considered the bad fats. Fats that are actually good for us are Monounsaturated fats and Polyunsaturated fats. These are absolutely necessary to the body and health. You can tell the difference because at room temperature, the 'bad fats' are solid, like lard and animal fats. The 'good fats' are liquid, like coconut oil or peanut oil.

5. Get the right amount of insoluble fiber. We actually can't digest this type of fiber, however it provides great benefits for our bodies. It slows down the body's digestion, and the process in which our bodies turn carbohydrates into glucose. This helps us feel fuller longer, which will keep us from over-eating.

6. Keep a food journal. This may sound kind of strange, but a lot of times we just don't realize how much we eat. Writing down what you've eaten will help with this. Going back to look over your journal, you will see what you are doing that may be inhibiting your progress. You will notice 'bad habit' patterns that you need to overcome, such as eating late in the evening, or snacking while you watch TV.

7. Count your calories. An average adult needs 1500 to 2000 calories a day to maintain a healthy weight. If we're not keeping track, we can easily go over this amount, as much as two to three times over! Counting and keeping track of calories will allow us to lose weight and keep it off. Pay special attention to the calories in the things you're drinking. Usually, by the time we have had our daily drinks, we leave ourselves very little actual 'eating' calories.

8. A lot of times when we're trying to lose weight, we find that we are hungry all the time. Veggies can help with this. The recommended serving of fruits and vegetables is 5 to 13 servings a day. 2 to 4 of those servings should be from fruit, and the veggies are free. You can eat as many as you want. This will ensure that we are full and satisfied, not to mention the amazing benefits of fruits and vegetables.

9. Try smaller meals several times a day instead of 2 or 3 large meals. This will help you lose weight by speeding up your metabolism. By eating more often, you won't be as hungry or as likely to snack before bedtime.

10. Get a support system. Especially if you are in a household where you are the only one who is dieting. It makes it easier when we can talk with people who are going through the same thing. Having support from people will help you stick with your plan easier, and motivate you to get active and healthy.

Trying to lose weight can be difficult. Following these tips is a good way to lose weight and keep the weight off. It's important to get the right foods, and to stay healthy and happy.

XBOX 360

The xbox 360 has so many new features as opposed to the older version. Some features that really stand out are the wireless remotes, the 20gb hard drive and the aesthetically pleasing exterior casing.

Firstly the xbox 360 is available in a choice of silver or black. Both are very appealing and it is a matter of personal choice which one the consumer wants to choose. Additionally you can remove nearly all the plates from the exterior casing to replace with whatever color you want. The wireless remotes are a blessing. No more tangled remote wires or having to sit close to the console just to be able to play the many wonderful games.

The 20gb hard drive is more than ample to store multimedia such as videos and music. The hard drive is also upgradeable leaving the option to upgrade later down the track but this wont be necessary. just to give you an idea of how much 20gb can hold, it can store either 5 full length dvd movies or upwards of 6000 mp3 songs.

Below the visually appealing exterior lies a lot of processing power. The XBOX 360 has 3 3.2GHz processor. Standard personal computers have just the one processor. Imagine 3 times the processing power of a well decked out personal computer and youll understand what kind of power the xbox 360 has.

To match the processing power the xbox 360 has a custom ATI graphics processor. The ATI graphics processor has a whopping 512mb of RAM and runs at a speed of 500MHz. This is enough to make light work of any high end game.

Besides the major feature of the xbox 360 that Ive listed above, it also comes with many additional accessories such as the wireless headset and so forth. The xbox 360 is a great innovation in the world of gaming and will continue to increase in popularity making it a formidable opponent to sonys playstation 3.

Why Does Cold Air Fall and Warm Air Rise?

cold air falls and warm air rises. Why? Discuss!

Many of us experience the effects of falling cold air and rising warm air on a regular basis. It is happening all the time in the air above and around us and is one of the components in our weather systems. You may notice that when there is no heating or air conditioning operating in your house, the rooms upstairs are slightly warmer than those downstairs. Another example is the hot air balloon that works precisely to this principle. By heating the air inside the balloon, the craft will be lighter than the surrounding air and will rise. This is actually the result of cold air gushing downwards around the balloon at the same time as it is rising.

So why does cold air fall? That is simple: it is heavier than warm air. And why is it heavier? That is slightly less simple, but only slightly. As with any gas, the air (a generic term for the mixture of the gasses in our atmosphere), contains molecules that move (or agitate). This movement (or agitation) is greater as the temperature rises. The molecules move in ever greater orbits, taking up more space. This causes the mass of the air to expand. Although the total mass of a lump of air has not changed, the mass is more spread out and so any given cubic area of it will be lighter. An analogy is found with popcorn. A half pound of popcorn before being popped may fit into a cup. After popping, the same corn would fill a large saucepan. Its total weight will be more or less the same half pound that it always was, but if you filled up the original cup with the popped corn, it would weigh less than the unpopped corn as the rest of it would no longer fit into the cup. Expanding hot air is similar. A cup of cold air would weigh more than a cup of hot air.

As we are playing the why game, let's continue. Why do the molecules move about more when it is warmer? They absorb energy through electro-magnetic waves that smash into the molecules. In short, this is energy transfer by radiation. So we have a collection (several trillion, lets say) of molecules that are very agitated and another collection which are far less agitated. The agitated collection is spread out and thus light. The collection that are less agitated is heavier. The heavier stuff falls downwards, while the light stuff rises.

As well as being the main process behind hot air balloons, the movement of air according to its temperature is a critical factor with the weather. Forecasters must ensure that these movements are factored into their modelling systems in order to produce a decent weather forecast. Air conditioning designers and must also take these factors into account as must architects. In order to preserve valuable heat, warm air must be prevented from escaping through the top of a building. As well as conserving heat, the movement of colder air downwards must also be considered when designing refrigerators and refrigeration systems.

If you have a few minutes, try this experiment. Firstly make sure nothing has been put into your refrigerator for at least 2 hours. Then, leave a thermometer inside the refrigerator, making sure it is placed at the bottom and then close the door. After 10 minutes, open the door and straight away and note the reading on the thermometer. Then place the thermometer on the top shelf and close the door. After 10 minutes, take the reading as soon as you open the door. You will notice a difference - perhaps as much as 1 to 2 degrees. This may not be such a big issue for us at home most of the time. For commercial kitchens, however, this difference maybe critical when ensuring food is kept at an optimum temperature. Commercial fridges are often fitted with a fan that evens out the colder and warmer air, thus negating the tendency for cold air to fall and warmer air to rise.

If you take large freezer stores - the ones that hold thousands of boxes of stock - the movement of air around the facility is an extremely important factor. The fans that blow frozen air into the store are always situated near to the ceiling, allowing it to diffuse downwards. Eventually, of course, the goods in the freezer store will need to be taken out and moved to another location, typically loaded onto a truck. If frozen goods are loaded onto a frozen truck this is no problem. Occasionally though, only a small quantity of frozen goods may be needed and the use of a large truck whose temperature is set at a frozen temperature would be wasteful if only a few boxes were being despatched. This is where insulated pallet shrouds or roll cage covers come into play. These enclose the pallet or roll cage, protecting frozen goods for up to 8 hours within an ambient environment (they also protect ambient goods such bakery products and bananas in a chilled or frozen environment). When a roll cage is used, the insulated roll cage cover works at its best when the cage is full of products. When it is half full then - you guessed it - the cold air falls to the bottom. This is fine at first (assuming the goods are in the bottom half), but after a while the warmer air that has risen to the top will start to affect the top layer of goods. This is where a temperature insulated divider must be used to make a seal and protect the goods in the half full roll cage.

So now you know the whys and hows of cold and warm air and now you also know why your feet get cold in winter!

Software is Now SaaSy

I hate it when a market matures. Sure, the profits are more predictable, but the excitement evaporates. Kinda like getting married.

As a marketable technology concept, SaaS has matured. This is evidenced by several factors, from adoption rates by enterprises, and by seeing companies with the most to loose from SaaS competition joining the fray. The giddy days of SaaS are soon behind us, but reduced profits ahead.

The good news is that enterprise customers have shaken their SaaS jitters and are adopting services at a fair clip. A recent survey of CIOs showed some interesting numbers:

10-15% of IT budgets are spent on SaaS
86% are using SaaS non-experimentally either for department point solutions or corporate wide
An average of six SaaS solutions are in use in an enterprise
73% of the CIOs plan on expanding use of SaaS
This bodes well for software companies who bet the farm on SaaS. Adoption and satisfaction rates are high and growing, which drops the barrier to adoption. SaaS will soon be given equal consideration in all project planning within IT.

And all a pure play SaaS software company has to do is make less money.

The McKinsey Quarterly reported that SaaS software vendors do not make as much as traditional software firms. This may be a side effect of being a relatively new offering, and that SaaS start-ups face significant SG&A costs (49% of revenues compare to 35% for a traditional and established software concern). but the net effect is that today a SaaS software company keeps about 13% of their revenues as profits (EBITDA), and folks that sell bits on CD keep 31%, almost three times as much.

So why would Microsoft be at all interested in SaaS? Microsoft rakes in a lot of money from software, upgrades and technical support services. Given that the average cost of goods sold and SG&A expenses are so much higher for SaaS than Microsoft's existing business model, it would seem suicidal to adopt SaaS.

"The industry will change," is what Allison Watson, the corporate vice president of Microsoft's worldwide partner group, said in a recent interview. Microsoft is old and cagey enough to spot trends, and know when to not fight them. SaaS will dominate in some markets, and CRM is the top achiever ( 36% enterprises that have deployed SaaS deployed SaaS-based CRM applications ). SalesForce.com added 253,000 new seats in 2006, and Microsoft had far fewer with their Dynamic CRM product ( some estimates claim that Microsoft owns a mere 1.4% of the total CRM license sales ). Thus, Microsoft is entering the SaaS market and targeting the low end, with a long-term plan of up-selling SaaS accounts to software licenses.

Microsoft's changing strategies avoid treating software as a zero-sum game. They see when they are being cut out of a market, and drive to adapt -- to claim or recapture market share. Knowing the lifetime value of a customer, they are willing to suffer lower margins in a highly competitive market to gain customers, and begin the insidious processes of creating interdependencies between Microsoft products, and raising customer switching costs.

SaaS is now officially here to stay, so you had best think through SaaS as an offering. It may be on your customer's requirements list.

Problem Shower Plumbing Headaches

Leaky faucets, clogged shower heads, cold water instead of hot and poor drainage are all a part of the headaches associated with shower plumbing. Most of us do not want to deal with these problems and will call a plumber. On the other hand, we want to save a little money and may decide the job will be easy and try it ourselves.

By knowing a few simple plumbing facts, you might be able to fix the shower stall yourself. You will need the right tools, but some jobs can be done relatively easy. It all depends on your determination and ability to do some simple steps.

The Shower is Clogged

The problem most people experience in the bathroom is the shower clog. The first thing to check with the shower plumbing is the drain cap to make sure it is free of hair and other debris. In addition, the drain has an inside part that sometimes collects hair and debris that flows through the drain cap. You need to remove the cap and then check to see if the clog appears in this area. You can use a wire of some kind to pull the clog out of the drain.

If you discover that these steps do not clear the shower plumbing problem, you next would try the plunger to see if you can loosen and debris that could be farther down the pipe. After plunging the drain a few times, you can run water to see if you have loosened the clog and the water now drains. If not, you may need to try one more thing before calling for help. Try some Drano and follow the directions and you should clear the clog if it is nothing more serious than a clogged drain.

Shower Plumbing and the Shower Installation

If you want to, you can install your own shower and plumbing without the help of a plumber. Once you have your shower picked out and the plumbing materials in order, you can begin the installation project. You usually receive instructions to follow when installing the shower and plumbing; therefore, you need to follow the directions systematically.

After you turn off your water supply, you can then begin installing the pipes and then check for leaks before sealing up the wall. Many people put a mirror or something over the opening for quick and easy access in emergencies. After the showerhead and all plumbing are installed, you are ready for the first run. Turn the shower plumbing on and see how things flow. All should be fine if you followed directions. It is not very hard to install and fix problems with shower plumbing as long as you follow directions.

UFO: I Teach Xrytspet Golf

There is lots of snow in the mountains but in our golden valley its warming up and the winds are not howling. our daffodils are peeking up out of the ground. That can only mean one thing: Its time to polish the golf clubs.

Thats what I was doing. I went out into the garage and started cleaning my golf clubs. I havent played golf for ten years. It was something I did about once a week with my companys handicap league and on special company-related occasions.

Recently, I havent really been able to play golf but I now have the aortic valve of a wonderful hog in my chest that can handle snow shoveling and weed pulling. What I was thinking was that it could handle golf too, if the opportunity came up.

Thats when Xrytspet plopped her bottom on my work table after pushing to the floor an old paint can, a three foot board, a perfectly good fan heater I had taken out of my neighbors garbage can, and a can of nails and screws.

I said, You can levitate that stuff right back there after you get your butt off my work table.

She pointed her sixth pinky at my treasures and levitated them into the garbage can. Then she levitated to the garbage can all the other stuff from my table except three pairs of pliers, two screw drivers, a coping saw, a sledgehammer, and a pack of sandpaper. She levitated the tools to my Sears roll-around tool cabinet except for the sledge which she parked in the corner of the garage.

I knew my wife would be so happy. I said, Dont stop now.

Xrytspet said, I want you to teach me to play golf.

I said, You cant appear in public and people will think it weird seeing a golf club swinging in the air all by itself.

She popped into a golf outfit that looked as crazy as some of the other golf outfits Ive seen on the public golf course. She wore big sunglasses that covered a good part of her face. I figured she had shopped at http://www.ladygolf.com/ and said, Okay. Nobody is going to notice. What are you going to use for clubs?

There in the corner.

I looked and sure enough there was a WAILEA Tropical Print golf Bag, red with tropical flowers. I knew it was $369.00. The clubs were different however. I said, Where did you get those strange clubs? They look electronic.

She said, They are a gift from Silzrack. He gave them to me as a gift for my 17456th birthday. They are almost, as you would say, handmade.

I said, Holy Cripes! What birthday?

She said, You humans live such short meaningless lives.

I said, You heard that in Men in black, Xrytspet.

She blinked her eyes, blinding me for three minutes. I said, I told you to stop doing that.

Sorry, Taylor Jones, the hack writer. But that was not the first time I heard that. Moses said it when he waved goodbye to the riff raft who would not help him build the ark.

I said, It was Noah and you probably have the wrong ark too. Let me explain it: NoahArc: MosesArk of the Covenant. Noahs ark is now an aberration on Mount Arafat. See http://arksearch.com/ and also seehttp://www.christiananswers.net/q-abr/abr-a001.html.

Nobody knows where the Ark of the Covenant is. Ethiopia? It either carried Gods Crown or the Ten Commandments or both. See http://www.crystalinks.com/ark.html.

She twitched her nose and said, Whatever! Theyre not that much to look at.

I said, You havent seen them. You are just spoofing me again.

She reached into her pocket and handed me two very small pieces of wood. She said, I knew you wouldnt believe me.

She gave me her pout.

We played eighteen holes on the public golf course. The scar was: Taylor Jones, the hack writer 133 and Xrytspet 18. It was a new high for me thanks to that hog.

I drove up to Moscow to our great university there to see Professor Samuel Greenberg, a dendrologist. I found him on the campus thumping a large oak tree. He said, Do you know that trees can talk?

I knew that Dr. Greenberg no longer taught at the university because of his strange behavior. But still, he knows more about ancient trees than any man on earth and still has his little laboratory behind the power plant.

I said, Dr. Greenberg, can you look at a couple of pieces of wood for me.

He looked at me through thick glasses and said, Wood?

What kind of wood?

Why did Taylor Jones, the hack writer, drive all the way from Magic Valley clean up here to Moscow?

It must be very important. Very important! Where is the wood?

I said, I put them in these glass vials.

He said, Very scientific. Lets go to my laboratory behind the power plant.

At the laboratory, Dr. Greenberg looked at the two pieces of wood under the microscope.

He had labeled my vials A and B.

He said, No doubt about A. It is gopher wood.

Now, lets look at B. My God!

This is acacia or shittah-tree wood.

Wait, there is a hair here. Its from a beaver skin.

Here is a blue fiber.

There is a trace of gold on the end of the piece of wood.

Where did you get these, Taylor Jones, the hack writer? I must have them.

The last time I saw Dr. Greenberg he was running as fast as he could to his immaculate vintage Ford station wagon with the wood panels.

Id give my left ventricle for that car.

I learned later from the department secretary, Hazel Elm, that Dr. Greenberg had been institutionalized because he thought he had obtained wood from Noahs ark and the Ark of the Covenant.

I had been the cause of all the trouble. I should have believed Xrytspet.
